Citizen Status

Student Legal Services (SLS) is an on-campus law office that provides a safe and confidential space for all UW-Seattle, Tacoma, and Bothell students who have legal questions or concerns. We offer free 40-minute consultations on a broad range of issues. Students can also hire us for ongoing representation for a low hourly rate. We are located in Husky Union Building (HUB) 306.

Eligibility
SLS can assist only currently enrolled UW-Seattle, UW-Tacoma, and UW-Bothell students (undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree-seeking) who have paid the Services & Activities Fee as part of their tuition. If you are not enrolled for the current quarter but you were enrolled last quarter and you intend to enroll next quarter, then you are still eligible for our services. Newly admitted students are currently enrolled once they have registered and are taking classes. SLS cannot represent a student when the opposing party is another UW-Seattle, Tacoma, or Bothell student or UW entity.

The Office of Equity and Inclusion was created to help cultivate an institutional vision and commitment to diversity while ensuring an equitable environment for all members of the UW Tacoma community. This means paying attention to policies and practices involving management, leadership, communication, resources, scholarship, and community. It includes focusing attention on the demographic composition of UW Tacoma and our surrounding community of the South Puget Sound to be certain that we know who are our students, faculty, staff, and community partners in order to better serve and work with all. In addition, we address our institutional systems as a means of better serving all faculty, students, and staff. Because UW Tacoma's mission clearly states that the University exists to "educate diverse learners and transform communities by expanding the boundaries of knowledge and discovery," equity, inclusion and diversity are linked to UW Tacoma's success and the academic achievement of UW Tacoma students.

Tacoma Community House creates opportunities for immigrants and other community members in the Puget Sound region through comprehensive services focused on self-sufficiency, inclusion, and advocacy. Services include educational, employment, immigration and advocacy services.

Our four main focus areas include: child welfare, juvenile court, immigrant youth and families, and youth homelessness.

LCYC was created, and has continued to evolve, in response to community needs and service gaps, expanding access to justice for young people in Washington. We provide direct legal services to hundreds of youth and young adults annually, increasing legal literacy and expanding access to justice.
